I agree.  Mergemaster did not remove the users, they are still in there.  I 
even ran "/usr/sbin/pwd_mkdb -p /etc/master.passwd" just to see if that would 
solve it, but no luck.  It seems very odd that root could login fine, but I 
couldn't, and then a new user could.
