Questions:

     Version: FreeBSD 4.3

     Hardward: IBM PC-365 PPro 200MHz

Problem: I am updating the system from 2.2.8 to 4.3.

The problem that I am having is that I receive
the following error when I attempt to print:

lpr: connect: No such file or directory
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.

When I look at the process table, with ps, I
find that I DO NOT have the following line:

 root 129 0.0 1.1 916 652 ?? Is 4:32PM 0:00.01 /usr/sbin/lpd

However, when I go to another machine, running
4.1, I DO have the above line.

BOTH machines have the following line in rc.conf:

                    lpd_enable="YES"

and both machines have an lpd in /usr/sbin.
Additionally, both machines, 4.1 and 4.3, have
                 very similiar kernel configuration files.

I am assuming that the reason that I cannot
print is because the daemon is not running.
Which leads me to wonder what is required to
get the daeomon running since both machines
have very similiar kernel config files (and
custom kernels) as well as very similiar
                 rc.conf files.

                  Help will be really appreciated.

                                        august
