That does not solve the fact that ftp.gnome.org is *not* in the standard list of places to search, let alone the fact that ftp.mirror.ac.uk has turned into a black hole. Once fetch tries to connect to ftp.mirror.ac.uk, it never gives up. I had a fetch stuck there for 6 hours yesterday!
