I beleive that the file you want to edit is /etc/gettytab. The syntax is
somewhat obtuse; below is an example of mt own "default" line setting:
default:\
:cb:ce:ck:lc:fd#1000:im=\r\nSECURE SERVER (%h)
(%t)\r\n\r\nSECURITY NOTICE This machine is not for public use\r\nDo not
touch this machine\r\n\r\n:Gwydion sp#1200:
"default:\" is on one line and the rest on the next line. The whole entry
has to be all on one line.
and the result comes out as:
SECURE SERVER (gwydion.bad.bris.ac.uk) (ttyv3)
SECURITY NOTICE This machine is not for public use
Do not touch this machine.
