I live some times in an area with one of the highest lightning
activities world-wide. The external lines are well protected but i.e. a
lightning hits nearby burned both the devices on one cable. The cable
was inside the house. The lightning hit the neighbour's house. The only
thing which would help here are shielded network cables. This why
wireless is a success also for static connections here.
