This year, we need small-file-serving performance from our disks, which is a benefit to FreeBSD in general, inasmuch as all our big programs are actually lots of little ones. I think the question is moot, since as I said earlier, I've decided to try for flash drives, but it's still a valid FreeBSD architecture question that should be answered.
