I did an ftp install over the weekend of 2.1.5 -- everything was great for outgoing traffic (i.e. an outbound ftp connection) -- the distribution blazed right in and I was initially very impressed with the performance of the 3c590 driver (vx0 -- ep0 is 3c509). However, when I tried to initiate inbound connections (http & ftp) there was some kind of buffering problem -- the transfer stalled and hung and pooped out. I tried a 3c595 (10/100 base T) and had similar results. I ended up cannabalizing a 3c509 (EISA UTP NIC) into finish the transfer of content over to that disk and finished it without further complications. I've seen reference to the 3c509's as being "buggy" but I've found that as long as Plug n Play is disabled, I set it up in the prom on IRQ 12 and addressed @ 0x280 and voila: it works like a champ! Whether the vx driver can be compiled into 2.1, I could'nt say but with the hassles I had over the weekend I'd advise against it until I had a higher confidence in the driver's debugging. > Date: Mon, 29 Jul 1996 07:34:07 -0700 > From: Darren Kerr <dkerr@cisco.com> > To: dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu > Cc: questions@FreeBSD.ORG > Subject: driver for 3com Fast Etherlink PCI > Date: Sun, 28 Jul 1996 16:37:38 -0700 (PDT) > From: Doug White <dwhite@riley-net170-164.uoregon.edu> > Reply-To: dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu > MIME-Version: 1.0 > Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII > > On Fri, 26 Jul 1996, Darren Kerr wrote: > > > Anyone have a pointer to a driver for a 3Com FastEtherlink PCI > > Ethernet adapter?
