Yeah, I sent a followup to the PR database (PR 60599), after this post.

Yeah, I have audio being fed directly to the soundcard, with all mixer 
settings set properly.  This setup works perfectly with Linux, just not 
FreeBSD.  I sent an email to Gerd Knorr (author of the bttv driver for 
Linux) about my problem, hoping he can point me in the right direction 
to get it working.
