To ascertain whether you have a hardware problem, try using cu. If your modem is on cuaa1 (COM2), enter: cu -l /dev/cuaa1 It should echo CONNECT. If your ISP telephone number is 2676800 and you have a tone line, enter: ATDT2676800 If it dials and connects, the problem was in your PPP. For help with configuring your PPP, look at www.mostgraveconcern.com/freebsd Paul Smith > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG > [mailto:owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of err > Sent: Saturday, 11 November, 2000 20:38 PM > To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG > Subject: ppp help > > > I was wondering if you would be able to help me with a problem i > was having with freeBSD. > It wont dial.. it gets the dialtone ,but doesnt dial. > i edited the ppp.conf file in /etc/ppp/ and set it for my modem > port and username and password and access #.. > it is a hard > modem.. > picks up my modem, with no problem, but when i try ppp -ddial or > if i go into the ppp menu, and type dial, nothing happens but a > dialtone , and an eventual operator.. > Thank you for any help you can provide. > Greg Kerr > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
