This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_000E_01C17371.612C33B0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You only get MAC Addresses of devices on your own wire. When you ping a remote site like yahoo.com, your computer doesnt know how to get there, as yahoo.com's server isnt on your local wire. Thus it uses your default route. The MAC of your Router or Default Route Device would appear in your arp tables. - From there, that router learns how to get to the second router along the way and so on, until it makes it to yahoos LAN and then that WWW server. However your computer cant see any of that and never learns any MACs except devices talking on your own wire. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------- Ron Hensley (ronh@intercom.net) CCNA #10082337 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------- - ----- Original Message -----=20 From: P K=20 To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG=20 Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2001 7:27 PM Subject: arp -a Hi all I ping yahoo.com.
