You need to learn to RTFFAQ, you would then learn that:

1) This is not germaine to -current.

2) "There are several methods for computer connection, but Ethernet 10BaseT is
emerging as the most predominant method."  FreeBSD supports a wide variety of
Enternet NICs, so yes, you can hook up to the cable modem service, from what I
can tell by reading http://www.cox.com/HighSpeed/modemfaq.html#How_Connect.
