For it to start automatically you need an /etc/named.conf file on
most unixes
On FreeBSD youd edit the /etc/default/rc.conf
  named_enable="YES"              # Run named, the DNS server (or
NO).

Find that line and set it to a YES and it will start at reboot (see
/etc/rc.network)
