I looked at your FAQs regarding the limits for the ffs file system. I have a question regarding the limits expressed on that table. For the most part they refer to the maximum single file size that such a FS can support given a block size. My question is actually more on the order of the number of entries (number of files) that can be managed by the ffs. I understand that the file structures themselves (blocks, inodes, etc.) do occupy disk space themselves. On the assumption that the disk space is plentiful, are there any practical limits on the number of files per file system, per directory? I'm looking for a file system that can store anywhere between 1 million and 100 million read-only files with any directory structure that can accommodate it. thanks Julio Castillo Edgenuity Inc p.s. any word on when JDK 1.4 may be available on FreeBSD?
