Hi, Last time I posted on the list about my new Asus KT333 board I complained that I was having an extremely irritating periodic sound crackle with any audio card I used, the builtin CMI chip, an external Yamaha DS1 and a Creative PCI 128 card. I've now traced this problem to the Asus Ipanel update setting on the BIOS. I have an Ipanel and use it to look at the fan speed and temp of the system, so I had this setting to update the display every 16 seconds. And around every 16 secs I got a crackle... Those went away when I disabled the update timer and now I'm using the internal CMI audio chip just fine and with good quality. So to summarize, to make this board work well under FreeBSD: - If running an Nvidia card and X locks up get John Baldwin's MTRR patch at: http://people.freebsd.org/~jhb/patches/mtrr.patch apply it to the kernel, recompile and add the line: machdep.disable_mtrrs="1" to your /boot/loader.conf to disable MTRRs. - Be sure to disable the IPanel Update Timer in the BIOS if you want to use any audio at all on this board (internal or not). Now everything works just fine. Thanks to everyone who helped. Gabriel To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
