As Udo points out, this is a bit of a pain.

Also, as he pointed out in an earlied message, while this is the case, it
seems to have a negligible effect on the Jade's process time and memory
usage.

I say go for it.

In particular, with an eye to the future, I'd like to see something like
man-refs.ent be shared between the BSDs (and who knows, perhaps a few Linux
distros as well).  No sense in everybody reinventing the wheel.
