The userland ("world") and kernel version numbers diverge when system
updates do not modify the kernel:

$ uname -r
10.3-RELEASE-p4
$ freebsd-version -k
10.3-RELEASE-p4
$ freebsd-version -u
10.3-RELEASE-p6
$
