Thank you This is what is known as a "virtual desktop". If you used the xf86config command to setup X, then this is what you get by default. The XF86Setup command doesn't give you this. Take a look at the X11 section in the FreeBSD Handbook for ways to fix this. It involves editing the XF86Config file.
