No, it shouldn't. :) Its only job is to show you the differences
between your installation and the defaults, and to allow you to blend them
together according to your preferences. Mergemaster would have shown you
the diff's to /etc/ttys, then it's up to you to take action on rebuilding
your devices as necessary.
One of the fundamental design goals for mm is to be VERY
conservative as to what it does and does not do. Spontaneously remaking
a system's devices at the wrong time would be a Bad Thing (TM).
