While the final EOL date is a long way off, full support and maintenance
support1 have already ended:

https://wiki.centos.org/About/Product

More importantly, vendors are beginning to drop support for it in their latest
releases, e.g. we cannot run some CUDA scientific apps until we upgrade our
CentOS systems to 7.

I agree that flavors are likely the best solution.  I'll experiment with the
flashplayer ports ASAP and post results here.
