To take a different topic for awhile, what things should we change
to "default to" ssh instead of rsh, rlogin, etc?

For instance, I use cvs to connect to remote repositories. I am
used to setting:
      export CVS_RSH=ssh
I also do something (I forget what) so my rsync scripts default to
using ssh instead of rsh.

is that the kind of thing we should be doing? If so, where would
we do it? Modifying each of the ports? Putting the environment
variables in the default .cshrc (.bashrc, etc) files?
