Hi all,
my machine still keeps crashing upon invoking scanpci or XFree 4.2.1.
I have meanwhile done three more things on a spare disk:
1) Tried to install Redhat Linux 8.0:
died with kernel panic in the install and I didn't have the patience
to fiddle with it
2) Installed Redhat Linux 3.0.3:
Worked just fine; X 3.1.2 came up after autoprobe and scanpci
completed without killing the box
3) Installed FreeBSD 4.3:
scanpci completes fine, X 3.6.x hangs the machine hard
Detailed log files for the last two attempts follow below. I am wondering
now: Is this
- a FreeBSD problem: after all, I don't think it should allow X to kill it,
- or an X problem: after all, older versions work, and scanpci shouldn't do
what it is doing to my box
Maybe I have to file a bug report with the XFree86 folks, too?
Any pointers are most appreciated, I am really getting desperate to get
X up on this box.
