https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=289808 Bug ID: 289808 Summary: Framwork 16 laptop: in /etc/rc.conf line kld_list="amdgpu" causes crash Product: Base System Version: 14.3-STABLE Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: misc Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: web@umich.edu I installed FreeBSD-14.3-STABLE-amd64-20250828-62947e508161-272260-memstick.img from a thumb drive. After bsdinstall finished, I began to build ports using portmaster (current count 1085). Wanting to run x11/xorg and use the Synaptics rouchpad I read several articles on the internet. During bsdinstall I was prompted to install a firmware module supposedly related to this hardware: gpu-firmware-amd-kmod-aldebaran-20230625.1403505_2 The other key port that I installed/built was: graphics/drm-61-kmod Then I added this line: kld_list="amdgpu" to my /etc/rc.conf as specified in the handbook in sections 5.2 and 5.2.2. Upon rebooting, the concole window stopped with a crash and reported a problem with a file "gc_11_0_1_mes.bin" which I found here: /usr/ports/graphics/gpu-firmware-amd-kmod/work-aldebaran/ drm-kmod-firmware-20230625_8/amdgpukmsfw-files/gc_11_0_1_mes.bin This file is dated January 12, 2024 and has size of 287712 bytes. When I comment out that "amdgpu" line in /etc/rc.conf, I am able to successfully reboot into a running 14.3-STABLE system but am not able to run X11 windows. I don't know how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.home | help
