I don't know what they are called now, but Sony used to make three
lines of Trinitron monitors: the SE, SF and SX.  I have both 20SE and
20SF around here, and the difference is staggering.  The 20SE can do
1200x900 at 102Hz with a Matrox Millenium, and it's as smooth as
paper.

The number to look out for is the horizontal sync rate: for 17", they
should be something like 92kHz, 85kHz and 70kHz.  You want at least
85kHz or you won't be able to get a flicker-free screen for 1152x864.

If you are spending a lot of time in front of the computer, get the
best monitor you can afford, they will last a long time (no, Mag
doesn't qualify) and once your eyes get bad, no amount of money will
bring your eyesight back.
