IMO, the best fix for this will be to change 'make' so we have a way to specify an alternate shell (instead of the hard-coded value of /bin/sh) for the 'installworld-ish' targets. There are some other changes in this general area which will probably also be done sometime in the next few weeks, but those aren't for "urgent bugs" so we can take more time to look into them. It would be a very good idea to have this update also added to RELENG_5_2, but I'll wait to hear from re@ as to how they way to handle that. The nature of this bug is that someone can follow the officially-recommended order for a source upgrade, and still have 'make installworld' die in the middle of it's processing. The user is left with a system where most of /bin is unusable (unless they know how to work around it). -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@FreeBSD.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Troy, NY; USA
