I can repeatedly lock up my virtual terminals by attempting to switch to
them WHILE XFree86 is in the process of shutting down. Is this what you
did? I have not found a way to recover from this, and have always had to
reboot. I just avoid the problem now by NOT changing terminals whilst
XFree is shutting down.
