Jamie, how exactly did you =E2=80=9Calmost get bitten=E2=80=9D by this?  `a=
ccess()` etc always
dereference the symbolic link because the question they answer is =E2=80=9C=
what would
happen if I tried to `open()` this path=E2=80=9D and `open()` always derefe=
rences
symbolic links.  Furthermore, as is already noted in the manual page, you
should probably not be using `access()` at all for reasons entirely unrelat=
ed
to whether or not it follows symbolic links.
