makewhatis does not implemented the -v option. If you run it, the option wi=
ll
silently ignored:

$ makewhatis  -v man

on FreeBSD 10 I get:

$ makewhatis  -v man
man directory man
  man/man1
        reading man/man1/cat.1.gz

--=20
