Subject: XF86Setup is broken in FreeBSD 2.2.7

2.2.7-RELEASE looks good, apart from one thing XFree86.

Something stuffed up pretty bad packaging the XF86332 stuff in 2.2.7

Check this out:

2.2.7-RELEASE/XF86332>tar -ztvf X332set.tgz
-rwxr-xr-x root/wheel 819200 Mar 2 22:08 1998 bin/XF98Setup
-rwxr-xr-x root/wheel 243 Mar 2 22:08 1998 bin/xmseconfig
...

There is no bin/XF86Setup in this package. There is one in X332jset.tgz
(and no XF98Setup) BUT if you try to run either, they will try to use
kaji.

Also note.. that the XF86 part of /stand/sysinstall is completely stuffed.
(As mentioned by someone else earlier). As an example try and just install
the XF86332 Setup utility, the above package, using sysinstall. You can't,
it complains about some /etc/config step and does nothing. Also, upgrading
from a previous version of FreeBSD (I used 2.2.2) will NOT upgrade
XFree86.

I noticed this when I read the previous post about 2.2.7 and X and thought
I would see if I had any XF98 stuff anywhere (I didn't when I checked, I
do now). I noticed that I was still running the X that came with 2.2.2. So
I ran sysinstall and it wouldn't install XF86. I tried 'Post install
configure', and 'Custom Setup'. Both it refused to upgrade X. I
eventually selected 'All' and selected the things I didn't want (including
PC98 stuff). But after that I couldn't run XF86Setup because it was the
old version from 2.2.2-RELEASE that isn't compatible with the tcl scripts
in 3.3.2.??? included with 2.2.7

In short... if you plan to use XFree86 with 2.2.7-RELEASE, don't use the
one that comes with 2.2.7 unless you want to write the config by hand.

I ended up extracting XF332set.tgz from 2.2.6-RELEASE so that I could get
my machine going again. :( I shouldn't have bothered upgrading X, it
wasn't worth the hassle.
