They *ARE* standard extensions, and thus forms of email used on the Internet. I have not heard of any ISPs blocking MIME attachments either. That is not only ridiculous, but rather stupid and a bad decision from a business standpoint. The use of MIME attachments is also much higher than 1%... I would venture to guess. SPAM has nothing to do with MIME either. Not only is MIME a part of email, but Usenet and the Web. Read some RFCs.
