The old DPT driver (pre-CAM) had the hooks to do this, though I'm not
sure if they were tested.  Justin deleted these during the CAM
conversion, citing the CAM passthrough interface as an adequate
substitute.  This may be through a mis-understanding of their purpose,
though.
