With the 1.3.1 JVM without hotspot, you can get a thread dump with a kill
-3; however this seems to have no effect on the hotspot JVM. Is there
some way to coax out a thread dump?

I ask because there's something strange happening with Resin under the
server hotspot JVM and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out what it
could be.
