That's right.  However, if I'm not mistaken, you can compile
anyway, and it will turn out ok.  Even though config doesn't
know about the option, it will add -DCOMPAT_LINUX_THREADS
to the kernel compile commands, I think.

I had trouble with on-line registration for a while too.  I thought
the problem was that I hadn't added the Office50/bin directory to
my PATH.  When I did this, it seemed to be fixed.  But, I might
have re-installed at about the same time, and maybe I changed
something else too.

AFAIK, COMPAT_LINUX_THREADS didn't change anything compared to
the patches that were at lt.tar.com .
