Even so, DISTVERSION stays the same, does it mean that it's no longer
fetchable?  Otherwise I see no reason for the churn.

It seems you're reading it wrong, or simply don't really understand
the machinery behind those things.

Then again, other people had expressed similar concerns over your
recent commits.  Are you going to address them?
