Dear Kat,

This has to be one of the most unusual, to say nothing of misguided,
requests we've received in quite some time. You offer a package for
download without authentication or any form of access control, yet you
go after a site which merely REFERENCES the software in question and
does not make it directly available by any other means. Have you lost
your minds?

Just out of curiousity, I did a couple of net searches and found over
30 other references to your software, not counting the Internet
"spiders" who will have already auto-discovered the location of your
software and made it available through the almost uncountable number
of indices they provide. The page you reference is also an excerpt
from a published work from Addison-Wesley and without knowing their
sales figures, we can safely postulate that there must be many
thousands of copies out there with references to your software.

If you do not wish for "unregistered users" to download it then it is
incumbent on you to provide some kind of access control which simply
does not allow downloads without the proper authentication. To do
otherwise is tantamount to leaving your front door open 24x7 and then
complaining when people or other undesirable forms of life come in.
It truly demonstrates a significant degree of ignorance as to how the
Internet works to presume that you can cause this to happen simply by
shaking a legal stick at anyone with the temerity to reference an
unprotected piece of software up for public access. The problem
is on your end and not in the published work we're merely citing
on our web site.

Regards,

- Jordan Hubbard
