I have this same problem with 4.0R and 5.0 current when using Linux
Acrobat Reader. Fonts are overlapping and it makes text unreadable.
Problem appears only when Xserver (XFree86-3.3.6) is configured for
24bit. 8/16/32bit is just fine. Any ideas?
