Just a comment from a newbie: We've probably all wished for such a document, but here's a couple of things to consider: The information would (usually?) be redundant, being documented in subject- specific sections of the handbook (or ?). This increases the maintenance burden if your documentation is other than just a dated article. In a low-resource outfit, it is probably better to keep info in one place and use references. It is probably debatable where that should be for sysctl items. I suspect that their use is better described in a topical context than in a list as you propose. Perhaps your document could list the items (to be easily located and for methodical exploration), giving references to sections in other documentation where each are described (and you could improve those sections as needed) and do as you planned for the items nowhere else described. Of course, If you'd rather not mess with references and other documents, I'm sure the document you propose would be a lot better than none at all. I hope you will not forget to mention the interaction of some KERNCONF variables with some sysctl variables. Good of you to ask for comment first. I hope I haven't discouraged you.
