This may not be directly relevant, but vtun also has other problems for
non-IPv4 traffic, because it doesn't put the tun decive into "multi-AF" 
mode. I've submitted patches (see the vtun SourceForge site), but 
haven't heard back from the author so far.

I'm looking into replacing vtun with netgraph, which handles this (I 
hope, still evaluating), and should also have the additional benefit of 
being an in-kernel mechanism, thus saving two user/kernelmode switches 
per packet. Maybe netgraph might work for you, too.
