This has the net effect of replacing one no-op with another:

root@des ~# egrep 'spl(imp|net)' /sys/sys/systm.h
static __inline intrmask_t      splimp(void)            { return 0; }
static __inline intrmask_t      splnet(void)            { return 0; }
