Why not see if it could be made a volunteer effort?

Again, ideally it'd be free. The persons involved would already be updating
their own systems, so only a small amount of additional effort would be
involved in propagating the updates.

Who is FreeBSD.ORG's insurance carrier for situations where it releases
code with bugs or holes? ;-)
