okay, so scanning works but authentication times out:

What does your AP think?  To what authentication is it set to?  What's the
brand?

Can you show the output of
  ifconfig -v list scan
for your AP?

Does adding
   proto=3DWPA2
to your wpa_supplicant.conf entry help (just a random shot in the dark)?
