latch broke 18 months ago.

Yes. I had the lid closed while compiling. I also had my LaTeX
manual on top of the lid. I don't know if that was a contributory
cause or not, but it sure is messed up.
A new keyboard for the thing is like US$50.00, which isn't so bad. I
may end up replacing it. It still seems to run Ok, but I've not had
it on much since it melted, as you may understand.
