I installed FreeBSD 2.2.6 from CDROM (*) on my laptop.
Now I wanted to upgrade to 4.0-current
`make aout-to-elf-build' died in
/usr/src/lib/libc/sys/Makefile.inc
because MACHINE_ARCH was not set (or set to "unknown").
Workaround: set the variable MACHINE_ARCH to i386 on the shell
$ MACHINE_ARCH=i386; export MACHINE_ARCH
(*) one of the 500 free CDROM which Jordan sent to Berlin ;-)
