I am running FreeBSD 5.3. I have it presently loaded on an older Compaq 5140 computer. For some unknown reason, I am having a problem getting DMA turned on for my CDROM drive. I am also receiving an error message regarding the 'slave'. I had FreeBSD 5.2.1 loaded previously and never received any such warning message. In addition, the DMA was initiated at bootup with the same entries I now have in the 'LOADER.CONF(5)' fiie. I reformatted the HD prior to installing the new version, so I do not believe that the problem lies there. Here is my 'dmesg' output: Copyright (c) 1992-2004 The FreeBSD Project. I have not had success getting the DMA initiated using the /boot/loader.conf file however. This is my 'loader.conf' file: snd_ess_load="YES" hw.ata.ata_dma=1 hw.ata.atapi_dma=1 hw.ata_wc=1 I have tried using parenthesis around the numbers as well, but the results are the same. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks! Gerard E. Seibert gerard-seibert@rcn.com Only in America... Tim Allen, comedian, had this to say about Martha Stewart: "Boy, I feel safer now that she's behind bars. O. J. & Kobe are walking around, but they take the one woman in America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard and haul her ass to jail."
