            Bug ID: 253387
Summary: Is there no way to exclude unwanted modules in the
                    kernel itself?
           Product: Base System
           Version: 12.2-RELEASE
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Only Me
          Priority: ---
         Component: kern
          Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: support@fluxsoft.com

Compiling a custom kernel to eliminate unneeded modules to a large degree
doesn't work. For example, many modules appear hardcoded into the kernel.
Examples include the following

ataserverworks
atapromise
atanvidia
atanetcell
atanational
atamicron
atamarvell
atajmicron
ataite

Is this by design?
