Here's something that I've been thinking about. Now that I have my Alpha box and am starting to put together a ports collection for it, I was thinking about testing the waters with bzip2. Since nobody has a FreeBSD Alpha box with a port collection (at least from bits that we provide) I should be able to work out the bugs there. Comments? Another thing I thought of was building a release or two with bzip2 to guage the difference. After having been a part of several release cycles now (and given the current state of sysinstall) it is the lack of room on the first CD that hurts us the most. Now that we have a two disk install, there should be room for both bzip2 and gzip on the second disk. All I need to do is find the time to play with the release bits. :) # On the other hand, I don't see much point in the "should we mark the # gimp PS manual NO_CDROM" debate. The amount saved is fixed, and the # old axiom applies. # # We already have Steve trimming things out as (un)necessary, you should # just leave this stuff to him. Setting it NO_CDROM is going to remove # any possibility of it showing up for future releases even if we have # enough space (hey Jordan, when are we going to that 10-CD set?) After this weekend's journey, it looks like 6 would just about right for a single release, but with the number of ports growing as quickly as they are we'll be 6+ RSN. I'd like to get to watch the show when Jordan gets to explain how we really want 2.5 times the number of CDs we have now. ;) -steve To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe cvs-all" in the body of the message
