Except for critical or FreeBSD specific problems, it is generally better to report bugs and submit fixes to the 3rd party responsible for contributed software rather than to hack away in /usr/src/contrib. The rationale for this approach is that over time many nuisance conflicts are generated when our local changes aren't adopted by the "vendor".
