Could you please remove the body of memguard_init(), compile a DEBUG_MEMGUARD
kernel and try to boot it?  That code doesn't run particularly early during
boot, so I'm not sure why it would cause the boot to fail without seeing any
console output, but maybe there's some later initialization step that's needed
in order to see console output?
