schulte+freebsd> Maybe allow something new, like schulte+freebsd> COMPLETELY_DISABLE_SENDMAIL="YES" Perhaps.. schulte+freebsd> Some sort of script like /usr/local/etc/rc.d/$MTA.sh would schulte+freebsd> be used for startup, like any other third party daemon. It wouldn't be in /usr/local/etc/rc.d as sendmail is part of the base system. Work is going on in -CURRENT (although stalled at the moment) to move to an /etc/rc.d/ system. schulte+freebsd> Is this just one 'bump' with the 8.12.x series that will schulte+freebsd> not rear its head again for a long while? It's a bump as unlink previous releases, sendmail 8.12 is no longer set-user-ID root. This required a lot of work on the infrastructure. However, I can't guarantee things won't change over time.
