As Roman said, the warning in UPDATING only affects 2.4 <-> 2.6. So if =20 you change 2.4.2 to 2.4.20, it will not result in the use of =20 interfaces of a 2.6 kernel (which aren't available in -stable) by the =20 linux glibc. Now, the interesting question is: what kernel API changed between =20 2.4.2 and 2.4.20, and do we support it? >> Changing the compat.linux.osrelease sysctl value from 2.4.2 to 2.4.20 >> solves the problem (matlab works in console mode, there's still a >> problem with java however so no graphical mode). The default value is not changed in -stable since ages. And if it =20 influences the results, it's a bug in the LTP tests. The tests know =20 about the kernel version (at least the testsuite prints the version at =20 start).
