Yeah, FreeBSD does not yet recognize a SATA DVD drive. The BIOS handles the original booting of the system. Do you have a regular ATA port on the machine that you could put an old CD or DVD drive on? Why isn't ftp an option? No network? I'm afraid I don't have another option for you. Maybe moving the distribution to some USB drive?
